Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has been finally selected for the Ministry of SMEs and startups 'business incubation (BI) center support project' competition.

This project, being implemented for the first time this year, aims to develop and operate unique entrepreneurship support programs at individual business incubation centers, thereby encouraging their specialization and fostering the growth of resident companies.

With the selection of this project, Pukyong National University has secured a total project budget of 250 million won, including an annual national subsidy of 150 million won and support funds of 51 million won from Busan city, for the operation of the business incubation center until 2025.

The business incubation center provides various start-up support programs, including providing training to 223 campus-based companies (as of 3. ‘23), general companies, and start-up companies created by professors and students, producing prototypes, and holding start-up camps to solve difficult technologies.

Since being designated as a business incubation center in August 1999, Pukyong National University has built up its capacity for business support through 25 years of operating the incubation center and attracting various projects. It has been highly praised for establishing the largest-scale incubation facility in the southeast region and dedicated infrastructure for startups and industry-academia collaboration.

In particular, the campus is designated as a hub for technology startups, a Busan research and development special zone, and a youth startup promotion zone, and was recently selected for the campus innovation park project, which acknowledges its potential to be connected to the 'POST-BI' program in the future.

Director Oh Jeong-Hwan at the Pukyong National University industry-university cooperation foundation said, "The business incubation center aims to discover and nurture competitive venture companies and enhance the sophistication of entrepreneurship clusters through innovative growth in knowledge-based industries, and will support entrepreneurial talent and companies to innovate in line with university innovation, fostering their growth into competitive enterprises in collaboration with the local community."

In line with this, Pukyong National University expects to receive momentum in fostering entrepreneurship and revitalizing the local economy, as evidenced by its selection as the leading organization for the 'BI support project' in the 'annual assessment 2024 of business incubation support centers' prior to this project. <Pukyong Today>
