Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that it runs the ‘dream and talent developing program, youth hope ladder with PKNU caretaker’ at Aloysius basecamp (Amnam-dong, Busan) from January 9 to 13 for local caring teenagers.

Around 50 Pukyong National University’s ‘PKNU caretaker’ students started cooking, carpentry, gardening, engineering, and crafts at the Aloysius basecamp from the afternoon, 9th with 40 teenagers in regional youth counselling & welfare institute in Busan and Gimhae.

Pukyong National University’s ‘PKNU caretakers’, who are carrying out this voluntary service, are college students belonging to the Social Contribution Volunteer Corps, which provide self-reliance support, sports, and counseling activities for vulnerable youth in the region.

From this day, Pukyong National University students teamed up with teenagers to make muffins and beef bakes, make wriggling boxes and wooden insects using hand tools, make pet plants and mini gardens, practice coding for self-driving Lego model cars, and make pillows for naps by sewing.

This program is designed to help university students develop self-reliant and adapt to society through experiential activities and mentoring so that they can get close to teenagers in institutional care and discover their dreams and talents.

Prior to this event, Pukyong National University students invited local youth in institutional care to campus in 2021 and last month to hold sports events and mentoring in soccer, futsal, basketball, and running.

“I hope that our university students, as sisters and brothers, will be a small contribution to helping youth in institutional care find their talents and grow into wonderful members of society in the future.” said Kim Dae-Han, one of the students from the PKNU caretaker.

Pukyong National University is carrying out various activities in cooperation with local organizations such as Mansasoneon corporation and Aloysius basecamp to support the youth of the underprivileged in the community, and plans to develop and promote various support activities in the future. <Pukyong Today>
