Greatly expanded research support for PKNU, the largest amount for research grants ever

External research grants of 76.5 billion won in the first half PKNU's efforts to establish a next-generation research support administration system.

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has greatly expanded research projects, such as establishing a next-generation research support administration system, by securing the largest amount external research funds in the history of the school, attracting the public's attention.

Pukyong National University announced on the 14th that under the supervision of the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation (Director Oh Jeong-Hwan), the university will establish a comprehensive plan for this year's academic research promotion project to support research, academic activities, strengthen research competitiveness, and promote up to 30 research projects.

Pukyong National University has prepared a ‘firm banking service for the research project’ that supports research-related financial transactions, including the ‘next-generation integrated administration management system for research’ that administers the entire research support process. In addition, projects such as ‘Post-Doc Support’ and ‘thesis publication fee support,’ have been newly established this year to support young researchers.

In addition, among the existing research support projects, the fund for the project application fees, support for the challenging research, expenses for academic conferences, and prize money for excellent theses have been greatly expanded and improved so that researchers can feel the effect of the support.

Through these efforts, Pukyong National University secured research grants amounting to KRW 76.5 billion, an all-time high, in the first half of this year (January to June). This is a significant increase compared to 55.3 billion won in 2019 and 62.1 billion won in 2020 during the same period.

Particularly, when comparing the total research grants that reflect the characteristics of research projects conducted over several years, the increase was even greater, reaching 210 billion won this year, an increase over the 120.5 billion won in 2019 and 163.2 billion won in 2020.

Pukyong National University has achieved results not only securing 38 billion won in research funding, more than doubled from last year, in the national R&D project from the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), but also has been selected for various large-scale government research projects hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOITE).

Oh Jeong-Hwan, director of the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation at Pukyong National University, said, "The effects of Pukyong National University not only creating a foundation for researchers to focus on research, but also systematically supporting research project planning and recruitment, academic activities and follow-up management are now appearing. Through these efforts, Pukyong National University will make a leap forward as a research-oriented university and make more efforts to establish itself as a mecca for regional industry-university cooperation." <Pukyong Today>
