Jang Dong-Seok (age 82), an emeritus professor at Pukyong National University, a veteran in the food engineering in Korea, donated 50 million won at his own expense to nurture talents in this field and to use it for the development of Pukyong National University.

 

In the morning of the 23rd, Pukyong National University held a development fund delivery ceremony in the president's office on the 3rd floor of the administration building with professor Jang Dong-Seok and President Jang Young-Soo.

 

Professor Jang delivered 50 million won to President Jang Young-Soo on the same day and said, "I would be happy if my donation could be of even a small contribution to Pukyong National University, the cradle of nurturing food engineering talents in Korea, in nurturing talented people for the future."

After graduating from the National fisheries university of Busan, the former of Pukyong National University, Professor Jang worked at the National institute of fisheries science before being appointed as a professor in the Department of food science and technology at his alma mater.

 

Professor Jang has served as the president of the Korean society of food hygiene and safety, the president of the Korean society of fisheries and aquatic science, the president of the institute of marine science & technology promotion, and the president of the Korean HACCP Research Society, as a member of the Korean academy of science and technology and a lifetime member of the National academy of sciences, he is recognized as a representative scholar in the field of seafood hygiene in Korea.

 

Professor Jang said, "Even after retirement, whenever I heard the news about the good news on my alma mater, my love and pride for the school grew and I thought about donating, and I am happy that I finally made it," he added, "It would be great if my donation could be a small help to the development of Pukyong National University as a university that represents the region and the country."

 

President Jang Young-Soo said, "I will do my best to inherit the school spirit of professor Jang, who is the professor of all of us, and to develop the university further by gathering the strength of all members including myself." <Pukyong Today>
