"Attractive Welding Technology"
Professor Cho Sang-Myung who is acknowledged as one of the world’’s foremost authorities has launched a Welding Technology Center at PKNU.
He opened the institute to disseminate futuristic technology which he has developed for many years. It is the first Welding Technology Center established in a University campus in the southeastern area of the nation.
The majority of Technologies that have been developed by Prof. Cho are innovative and renowned domestically and abroad. He made a new area in the Welding Industry by developing a welding monitoring system which enables the welding process to be analysed automatically.
In addition, he got the spotlight with his application of A-TIG which has been invented to weld plants and nuclear-qualified thermowells made of special alloy without any modification, which even experienced welders fail to do.
Prof. Cho says, " the Welding Industry was classified in the 3D sector in the past but now it has emerged as cutting-edge engineering." He clearly states that there are unlimited areas such as eco-friendly welding, high-quality welding and so on in terms of welding technology development.
He has developed a new welding technology which makes it possible to fuse different materials together. He invented automatic arc welding technology in 2008 with which two different materials of a copper and a stainless steel can be welded together.
Prof. Cho points out, major incidents such as an iron powder scandal in a milk container, and the collapses of the Sung-Su Bridge and buildings caused by Gobe Earthquake have all resulted from shoddy and faulty welding.
He says "60 % of welding related industries stand densely in the southeastern area including Busan, Ulsan, and Kyongnam and I just want to vitalize the industry by spreading out the cutting-edge welding technology with high efficiency and productivity."
The launching ceremony of the Welding Technology Center for convergence-integration component materials was held in an engineering building at YongDang campus, at 3 p.m. on the 15th of April.
The steering committee lead by the university, other research institutes, industries and experts in relevant areas comprise the main axis of this center. The center is composed of four main sectors which are the Operational & Supportive Department, the Research & Development Department, the Material & Equipment Testing Department, and the Education & Training Department respectively.
