Altemir Gregolin, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Brazil, Received Honorary Ph.D. Degree in Fishery Science

An honorary Ph.D. degree ceremony for Altemir Gregolin, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Brazil, was held at 4:30 P.M. on June 11 on the third floor of Dongwon Jangbogo Kwon, Pukyong National University.

Altemir Gregolin is the first Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, which was founded in 2009 to promote fishing industry in Brizil. He is the driving force behind the development of fisheries in Brazil, which has a wide-ranging seashore around the Atlantic and a huge continental shelf.

He is, especially, expediting the cooperation between Brazil and other countries in the American Continent on the development of fish culture technology, and making an enormous contribution to establishing the fish culture network in the Continent to secure food and eradicate poverty.

Minister Altemir performs a role as a partner on joint research and cooperation in fisheries between Korea and Brazil by attending the OECD workshop on the Economics of Adapting Fisheries to Climate Change, discussing matters on how climate change affects fisheries and how to manage fishery resources, and signing the MOU between both countries on aquaculture.

With this as a momentum, PKNU takes a step toward reinforcing the mutual cooperation on joint research on fisheries and maritime affairs.

“It is honorable for me to be awarded this honorary Ph.D. in Fishery Science at PKNU, which is the leading university in the field of fisheries and maritime affairs”, said Minister Altemir. “I want to learn Korea’s technology and system in order to revitalize the fishery and maritime industry, which is the foundation of the national development and leads the development of other industries,” he said.
