Park Jae Joon of Pukyong National University, the grand prize at the advertisement competition for university students A student of Pukyong National University won the grand prize at the 6th advertisement competition for university students organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
He received the grand prize by submitting his work ‘Curture Wolmasu’ to this contest whose aim was to publicize the value of culture to all of the people and encourage university students’ creativity. The prize money was 5 million won. The theme of this contest is to let the people know ‘the day of culture’, which has been run by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since last January to encourage all the people to use major cultural facilities across the country on discount or for free on last Wednesdays of every month. His prize-winning work produced with animatics was appraised that he conveyed ‘the day of culture’ to the people easily by expressing ‘Wolmasu,’ the abbreviation of ‘last Wednesdays of every month’ as a cultural thirst quenching drink. Animatics is a technic using pieces of animated story boards. Boards are brought together in an editing program and are cut together with the correct timing and pace of the film. And then they are mixed with basic sound effects and dialogue recordings, finally becoming a video image. This 33 second-work with the background of blue sky and sea presents a clause ‘Strange water has been released. Literally it is water, but no calcium, no potassium, and no magnesium in it. The water desired for long. The water with Gogh, Beethoven, and Shakespeare in it. Last Wednesday of every month. Wolmasu.’ Then he expresses the day of culture as water, by popping up an image of water bottle with the label ‘Wolmasu’ on it and another clause ‘The very fist water in the world containing culture. The water containing culture. Culture Wolmasu. *Last Wednesday of every month is the day of culture.’ “I think having used abbreviation to express the day of culture effectively worked well emotionally,” Park said, “ and I feel so happy to have a great result like this even though I went through hard time learning design editing programs and producing the ad since I didn’t major in design.”<Pukyong today> |
