Pukyong National University completed a brand-new building for the 1,011 student’s accommodation.

With the existing two dormitory buildings, the University is now able to accommodate a total of 3,135 students.

In addition to this, after the completion of another Happy Dormitory, constructed by the Korea Foundation for the Promotion of Private (&Public) Schools (KFPP) by February 2017 to hold 1,528 additional students, the on-campus housing rate of PKNU will surge from 16.5 to 24.2 percent.

On 15 March, the completion and opening ceremony for the “Sejong GwanⅡ,” which locates beside “Sejong GwanⅠ” on the Daeyeon Campus, was held with the attendance of President Kim Young-seup, faculty members and constructors.

The construction of this new dormitory started in July 2014, with the total budget of ₩29,132,000,000, and finished after 20 months on 29 March 2016. It is a multi-story building with nineteen stories above ground and one below on 20,165 square meters of land, and capable of housing 1,011 students in 44 single rooms, 471 twin rooms, 15 rooms for married couples and 10 rooms for disabled students.

Students are expected to enjoy comfortable and safe environment. Each 22 square meters room boasts shower and bathroom, cooling/heating system, wireless internet and refrigerator, and access to the balcony and rooftop terrace is available. The building is also equipped with cutting-edge security and energy-saving systems such as access control system, automatic power-saving system and CCTV.

“The new dormitory is situated in the southern part of the campus, where accommodations such as Sejong GwanⅠ•Ⅱ and Happy Dormitory and research facilities such as the Convergence Engineering Building and laboratories are created and going up. All of them are closely located, making the area more attractive,” President Kim Young-seup said, “I hope this new building will be another home for the students to work on and dream a bigger dream, enhancing the competitiveness of the University.”

The Sejong GwanⅡ was constructed under BTL arrangement, which is carried forward by the government aiming to provide more student accommodation at national universities across the country. The project was implemented by Busan Eco-Edu Inc., with Hanwha Engineering&Construction Corp., as a consortium leader, and the constructor is a local company Dongsin Construction Co., Ltd.

In BTL, which stands for Build-Transfer-Lease, the private investor builds the facility, and as soon as the construction is completed the ownership is transferred to the government. At the same time the investor has the right to manage and operate the facility for certain period so that the government leases it and pays to the investor. The management and operational period for this dormitory is 20 years. The Sejong GwanⅠ, which can house 1,632 students, was also constructed under the BTL in 2009. <Pukyong Today>
