PKNU Cultivates Leaders in Global Environment and Disaster
- The project team was selected for the BK21 PLUS
Pukyong National University takes a lead in cultivating earth’s environment and disaster experts.

The Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation recently announced 126 new project teams, including PKNU’s global environment and disaster system team, selected for the Brain Korea 21 Program for Leading Universities & Students (BK21 PLUS), which aims to produce academic leaders of the next generation by providing secure and stable research infrastructure for the graduate and doctoral students.  
PKNU’s project team for the global environment and disaster system, whose leader is Professor Paik In-sung of the Department of Earth Environmental Sciences, was selected for the Future-based Creative Human Resource Business of the BK21 PLUS.
The project team will be provided up to ₩3,150,000,000 by 2020 to train masters and doctors in the field of global environment and disaster including earthquake, global warming, typhoon and environmental restoration. 
The objective of the PKNU team is to create a cutting-edge research group for the earth/environmental science that can develop future core technology in the field of environment and disaster by combining information technology (IT) with environmental technology (ET).
In accordance with this, PKNU is ready to build a manpower development system which meets the needs of the regional industry as well as global clients through promoting international joint research program, and managing and grading results of the participating individuals and lab teams.
A total of 21 professors and 60 graduate students of PKNU from the School of Earth Environmental Sciences, Environmental Atmospheric Sciences, Spatial Information Engineering and Environmental Engineering will participate in the project. 
With the initiation of this project, PKNU runs a total of eight BK21 PLUS project teams in different fields and will be funded a total amount up to ₩12,650,000,000 by 2020.  <Pukyong Today>
