The UN FAO has been active in establishing the World Fisheries University of PKNU. This comment was made on May 14 by the Secretary General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization FAO, Jose Graciao da Silva, while encouraging the efforts of Pukyong National University (President Kim Young-seup) to establish the World Fisheries University (WFU). FAO, which has been watching the pilot project that has been going on since 2017 by our side (Government, Busan, and PKNU), has been walking along with us to try a pilot project this time. The establishment of Pukyong National University, the world's first fisheries university, has finally come to a close. This is the first time the FAO Cooperation Liaison Office has been established in Asia. This office is responsible for liaison between Korea and FAO, securing resources for food security and poverty eradication, and expanding cooperation. This cooperation liaison office is FAO's window for establishing 'FAO World Fisheries University'. The committee will consist of three members from FAO, Vice Mayor of Busan, Vice-president of Pukyong National University, and Policy Director of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. The joint pilot project with FAO, which will be held for the first time, will be held for three semesters from the beginning of the next semester to the master's course in fisheries science, fisheries resource management and fisheries social science. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), Busan City and Pukyong National University established Pukyong National University Fisheries Graduate School (Dean Lee Sang-go) as the first pilot project in 2017 to establish the World Fisheries University, an international organization under FAO in Pukyong National University. ', which has produced 44 trainees in last February. Jose Graciano da Silva, FAO Secretary General, said, "The establishment of an international organization (World Fisheries University) that will help the development of the country by transferring fisheries technology to developing countries is our first path. So far, no international organization has ever run such a program. Thank you for planning and proposing this great program in Korea." "It is very meaningful that the FAO and the Korean government signed a project to establish the World Fisheries University with FAO." said Lee Sang-go, the dean of Pukyong National University Fisheries Graduate School. The FAO's final approval of the establishment will be the 42nd FAO General Assembly, which will be held from June to July 2021." <Pukyong Today> |
