President Moon Jae-in held a luncheon meeting at the Blue House Main Building on the 22th of August with 24 Presidents of the National University, including Pukyong National University's President Kim Young-seup, who is chairman of the National and Public University Presidents' Councils.

President Moon stressed that "The National University should be the base of regional innovation.” in a round-table conference that lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes from 12 pm on the same day, he emphasized the importance of future convergence education, the need for human resource development, and the securing of original technologies such as materials and parts.

According to the Korea University Newspaper, President Moon said, “Please play a more active and active role so that the local people can feel that 'the innovation of all regions starts with the local national university.'", and added, "Regional innovation is also possible when local national universities and local governments are central, and communities and local industries work together. In addition, I believe that it is possible to cultivate local talents needed by the region, and to achieve balanced national development. I think that the sum of all the innovations in the region is making Korea's innovation. In that regard, let's work together in partnership with the national universities."

Pukyong National University's President Kim Young-seup spoke as the president of the National and Public University Presidents' Councils at the meeting.

President Kim said, “40 national universities throughout the country are striving to become a global prestigious university as well as acting as a center of balanced regional development and regional innovation in accordance with the government's national fostering policy.”

Kim said, “Now, the national university is establishing a policy to play a role as a platform for the 'local government-university cooperation-based regional innovation project' where universities, corporations, public institutions and local governments all work together.”, "“We will do our best to be a chance to drastically increase the core manpower and basic science and technology research power necessary for the development of the parts and materials industry, which is the core keyword of Japan and Japan through the platform business of the National University.”, he added.
