Pukyong National University’s alumni were selected as “The winner of Miss Korea Busan Ulsan (2019)” and have been appointed as “KNN Announcer” after over 500: 1 competition.

Kim Da-rom, an alumni (27 years old) of the Division of System Management and Engineering, Pukyong National University is all the attention.

She passed the KNN announcer public bond test of “Busan Gyeongnam National Broadcasting” which selected only 2 people last month.

When we met her at KNN broadcasting station in Centumseo-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan on the 7th, she had an unbelievable expression of ’passing exam’. She said, “I had a dream of becoming a KNN announcer when I entered Pukyong National University.

She proudly won the Miss Korea Busan Ulsan Competition in April, and in September, she also passed Jinju KBS through a competition rate of about 500: 1, and a gifted woman who worked as an announcer and passed KNN, the final goal.

How was this possible?

We talked to her for about two hours, and she felt very honest, kind and pretty inside as well as externally beautiful.

In short, can we just say she got ’pretty guts’?

Consider this example. In her third interview with KNN, she suddenly received an unexpected order to ’run the news in English.’

At that time she said, “I want to show my prettiness to my viewers and to the interviewers. If you send me to the 4th interview, I will work hard to show you the perfect side of me.”

This “a pert reply” must have been a favorite of the interviewers who were trying to see a sense of crisis breaking through to the announcer.

It was a coincidence that she entered the Miss Korea competition. Cast in the street by accident in March. At that time, she was under conditions (age and height) compared to other competitors, but she did not try to hide these shortcomings but rather made them her character by showing them proudly. Her honesty earned high marks from the judges.

It is said that the way to become an announcer is recognized as a star picker in the dialect. How did she, Busan native (graduated from Haksan Girls’ High School), overcome this disadvantage?

She worked as a PBS announcer. From first grade to fourth grade.

“I heard a lot of stories around the area saying that no locals are announcers, don’t even dream. I thought that there was only practice, so I practiced a lot.", she said.

“I used to do morning, lunch and evening broadcasts at school stations,” she said. "Even during vacation, I came to the station every day to practice. The experience was a great help."

After graduating, she continued to practice not only news practice but also MC practice, dialect correction, and Korean spelling through specialized institutes and study groups.

“I pledged not to lock myself in limits. I practiced and practiced myself not to underestimate my potential.", she said.

She said, “There was a picture frame of my role model, Hyun Seung-hoon, signed in the broadcast technology room of Pukyong National University. ’Do your best, school juniors’ was written on that frame. I had the courage to look at it every time I struggled."

She mentioned Alumni Hyun Seung-hoon (Enrolled year 94, Microbiology) is an alumni from Pukyong National University who became KNN announcer in 2002. Kim Min-jung, a graduate student of Marine Production System Management, who joined the company in 2000, was KNN Announcer No.1 at Pukyong National University.

However, Kim Da-rom’ did not easily follow the well-established path from Miss Korea to KBS to KNN.

She has been frustrated after falling four times in the last five months of the station announcer final exam. Nevertheless, she was a caster of Ulsan Transit Broadcasting (TBN) traffic and weather and a Pusan Far East Radio DJ.

What is her attraction that she thinks?

She said and laughed “People told me that I have a cute round face, but the unexpected bass voice was a reverse attraction."

When she attended school, she worked hard in the basketball club ’Bagooni’ and the climbing club ’Primeur’. In addition, she is an engineering student (Division of System Management and Engineering).

On this point, she said, “I studied big data and the Internet of Things in my faculty, and it helped me a lot during the interviews when I talked about the future of the New Minimalist broadcasting." and added, "Isn’t that the age of literature and integrated talents that this era demands?", she laughed.

We asked what she did every day to improve herself, and what she does every day, and she said, "Reading a paper."

She said, “Newspapers have the advantage of being able to see a variety of information at a glance and keep that information. Reading a newspaper is an announcer that is one of the things we try to expand our eyes to see the world and build humanistic knowledge.”

She said, “It is a great honor to be an announcer at KNN, the top of the local community that crosses Gyeongnam, Busan. I will be a beloved messenger of Busan news.” Also she didn’t forget to say "Please love KNN a lot." <Pukyong Today>
