Kim Young-seup, who was giving oration, suddenly announced the poet Kim Ki-rim.

"'The sea is a big place, juvenocracy! Let's grow up with your iron arms and legs in the waves!' The lyrics of the National Fisheries University of Busan (the former of Pukyong National University) were written in 1946 by the poet Kim Ki-rim, a representative of Korean modernism," the university president Kim young-seop said. In addition, he introduced “In verse 4 of this school song is 'Abandon narrow thoughts on land!  We are youths, son of tomorrow! The world is one, we are not strangers! Every country has its blue sea!'”

President Kim said, “The lyrics of this school song express the vast sprit of Pukyong's alumni who, like Mr.Heo, have thrown away narrow ideas and entered the world with the pride of being the 'son of tomorrow'."

#2. “He has been pioneering new fisheries for 50 years and helping to develop fisheries around the world.”

Then, what kind of person is he?

After graduating from Seongnam High School in Seoul, he entered the Department of Fisheries of the National Fisheries University of Busan (the former of Pukyong Natioanl University) in 1965 for his green and wide dreams, after studying the sea, he traveled the world's sea for half a century to this day.

Through pioneering new fisheries and developing fisheries in the world's island nations, he contributed not only to the development of coastal countries but also to the globalization of Korea's ocean industry and national advancement.

He pioneered the unknown seas that are unfamiliar to us, such as Madagascar, the country of baobabs, a fishing ground of Western Sahara, Oman on the Arabian Peninsula, Somalia, Yemen, Andaman Islands, Solomon, Mozambique, etc., he has contributed greatly to the development of fisheries in the island country by pioneering the unknown seas that are unfamiliar to us and participating in fisheries development.

He also helps young people from other countries who meet on the journey of challenging life to his alma mater, Pukyong National University, to learn the Korean language and to support the tuition and living expenses until the graduation of the undergraduate.

He has served as an honorary fisheries officer of the Oceania and Africa region of the Korea Overseas Fisheries Association, contributing to the development of the ocean industry through exchanges with the government and the private sector and collecting information on the ocean industry.

He was awarded the best captain award by the Korea Overseas Fisheries Association (KOFA) for the globalization of ocean fisheries, such as pioneering new fishery, and the Presidential Prize of the Republic of Korea for his contribution to the civil society as Korean President of Oman.

#3. “He reminds youths that the place where young people should be challenged is the five oceans.”

President Kim continued his speech, "I think Mr.Heo's practical life for others than himself is that 'the world is one that leads to the sea in every country', and that it comes from a high and deep perception that 'We are not strangers each other'."

President Kim said, “He is a great role model who has shown young people a solid indicator of 'how to live in the future' in a world that is becoming increasingly borderless and confined to a global village.", and he added, "I am honored that his alma mater, Pukyong National University confer a honorary Ph.D. for President Heo Dae-young, who has vividly reminded us that the place where our young people will challenge is the five oceans and the six continents."

After president Kim's oration, Chairman Heo, who was called to the stage, started valedictory speech.

Mr. Heo said, “Thank you for providing such a glorious place to your alma mater and to all of you." and added, “I want to share the joy of glory with my wife who has been taking good care of family for the last 50 years. Thank you for all the hard work.” he said again and again so the wife sitting in front of the auditorium can hear the speech.

How did he enter Busan National Fisheries University after graduating from high school in Seoul?

In his continuing speech he said, “From a young age, I loved drawing and tried to be a painter. When I was in my third year of high school, I saw the deep blue sea of Yongho, Daeyeon-dong. At that time, I thought, “To draw a big picture, I have to be a big person first.” The following year, I entered Busan National Fisheries University.”

Even though he fulfilled the big dream, he said, "The big picture is still in progress."

“I am filled with emotions as I think about the past that I have worked abroad to develop fisheries and fisheries at industrial sites for 50 years after graduating from university. I am grateful for the deep and sticky brotherly love of my alma mater, who has helped me go through countless ups and downs of life to this day.”

#5. "I will devote my life to produce better food for mankind"

He finished his speech as follow.

"I will strive for the rest of my life, the honor of my alma mater, the development of the ocean industry, and the production of better (fish) food for mankind all over the world."

His speech, pledging for humanity, was brief but hot.

Pukyong Today led him to the restaurant after leaving the event. In front of a large Moby Dick picture on a school bus going to a restaurant.

Moby Dick is a sperm whale. It is a symbol animal of Pukyong National University.

“You are like Moby Dick, who just came back after traveling through the five oceans and six continents,” I said, and as if he was thinking, “Oh, when I came from Australia, I reread the novel Moby Dick. He is a nice guy.”

It was a really nice time of Pukyong. <Pukyong today>
