"LED on halibut shows a high growth rate of up to 79 %"
The research team said, "As a result of an empirical study of 40,000 to 60,000 halibut at the farm site of Jeju halibut, compared to the control group, they have been shown a high growth rate of about 15 % to 79 % in a water tank equipped with a ’LED-ICT-aquaculture convergence lighting system’." and added, "The mortality rate is low and healthy halibut farming is being done, so it is receiving good responses from farming companies." In the meantime, the research team systematically analyzed physiological effects such as changes in swimming behavior of fish according to the LED wavelength, immune effect and wound recovery effect, stress reduction, and growth rate, and identified the optimal LED wavelength that can be applied to aquaculture sites. The research team conducted ▷ research on luminaires suitable for aquaculture sites such as moisture and salinity, ▷ formation and control of uniform illuminance distribution at the optimal wavelength in the tank, and ▷ research on light environment control for caring breeding for marine organisms. As a result, the team succeeded in developing a ’LED-ICT-aquaculture convergence lighting system’ that has excellent durability and field suitability. The research team will promote the development of aquaculture technology to further improve productivity by identifying the effects of light on other aquaculture species including halibut and the effect on fish maturation and body color control for the next two years from this year. In addition, the team will continue to develop technologies to remotely control the light and water environments and to commercialize them. In addition, the team continues to research on technology development and commercialization to remotely control the light and water environment simultaneously. The center head professor Yu young-moon said, "The Korean aquaculture industry is experiencing difficulties in development due to overflow of imported marine products and aquaculture technologies and equipment that are not manualized." and added, "We will do our best to secure global competitiveness by leading the standardization and modernization of the aquaculture industry as well as increasing the income of aquaculturist through the development of smart farming equipment technology." <Pukyong Today> |
