Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) was being exceptional in winning five awards, including the Minister prize by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) which is the top prize at the 'Mine-Tech Festa 2020' hosted by the Korea Resources Corporation.

Pukyong National University received public attention for its award-winning achievements including that Professor Choi Yo-soon of the Department of Energy Resources Engineering of Pukyong National University received the Minister prize of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (for Excellent Advisory Award Section) at this recent online competition, Park Se-beom (1 year in a doctoral course) from this department received the Grand prize, Kim Heon-moo (1 year in a doctoral course) awarded the Korea Mining Association Award, Jeong Da-hee (1 year in master's course), and Kim Da-won and Kim Yeon-jae (1 year in master's course) received the participation prize.

Held under the theme of 'Innovative Technology and Vision for Mining', this competition was prepared to cultivate outstanding human resources in the resource industry and provide opportunities to compete for innovative technology capabilities.

Park Se-beom, who received the grand prize in this competition, received the best evaluation among the participants by presenting the research results on the subject of 'Everyone's IoT: First Steps for Smart Mining'.

In this study, Mr. Park drew attention by suggesting a production management system for underground mines using Bluetooth beacons (location information transmitting devices) and tablet PCs using the Internet of Things (IoT).

He received a good evaluation for developing and testing smartphone applications with functions such as installation and testing of Bluetooth beacons for underground mine production management systems, navigation, warning of access to equipment, automation of production log creation, and data collection related to loading and transportation.

Along with this, Kim Heon-moo was awarded by Korea Mining Association for 'Underground Mine Meets Intelligent Unmanned Autonomous Robot', Jeong Da-hee and a team Kim Da-won with Kim Yeon-jae each received participation prize for 'Artificial intelligence dreams of future mining' and 'Wearables for mining workers: adding innovation to safety helmets and goggles'.

Their advisory professor, Choi Yo-soon took the honor of winning the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award (Excellent Advisory Award), the top prize in this competition, in recognition of his competency in the resource industry and the outstanding achievements of his students. <Pukyong Today>
