The student team of Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) took honor of the grand prize in two fields in the 'V-World 3D Modeling Contest 2021' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and organized by the Spatial Information Industry Promotion Institute.
In this contest, Pukyong National University, a team consisting of Jin Cheong-Gil (2nd year, doctoral), Kim Min-Seo (4th year), and Lee Da-Eun (4th year) from the Geo-Sciences Institute (advisory Prof. Choi, Chul-Uong) of the Department of Spatial Information Engineering were awarded the grand prize in landmark category, Kim Min-Ji (1st year, master's), Lee Se-Jin (3rd year), and Lee Kang-Ham (2nd year) team won the grand prize in the small area category.
The contest is held every year in three fields, landmarks, small areas, and spatial information utilization ideas to attract the public's attention to V World and Digital Twin (DT). In addition, excellent 3D digital models owned by the public and private sectors are provided free of charge to the public through the map service of V World, an open spatial information platform.
The student team of Jin Cheong-Gil, received the grand prize in the landmark field, had to build indoor and outdoor three-dimensional data for representative buildings that symbolize the region or history, they selected Yongdusan Park as a symbol of Busan as a model, and they made a 3D model through aerial photography using a drone, which received good reviews.
They received the highest score in that they presented the landmark value of Yongdusan Park, and at the same time, solved the problem of matching the modeling image of the Busan Tower in the park, and realized a high-quality 3D model like the real one.
The student team of Kim Min-Ji received the grand prize in the small area category, selected buildings in the area over a certain size and built 3D data in this section, they selected Central Park and presented a method to effectively reduce the time and cost of constructing 3D modeling with drone aerial photography and received excellent evaluations on the results. The team received the highest score in recognition of its high efficiency and usability by delicately implementing the spire of the Chunghontap Tower.
Particularly, Pukyong National University students drew attention in the contest by presenting a way to solve problems and implement them from various perspectives on the spatial information construction plan using drones using their major in Spatial Information Engineering under the guidance of Professor Choi, Chul-Uong. <Pukyong Today>
