Kim Hye-Jin (2nd year) of the Department of Architecture at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) won the grand prize at the 24th Ulsan Architecture Competition.

Kim took the crown with prize money of 5 million won for 'ADAPTING PUZZLE' (Advisory Prof. Kim Min-Seok · Song Dae-Ho), a work with the theme of connecting facilities around the future school used by students and residents in this architecture competition held by the Korean Institute of Architects Ulsan Branch (KIAUB).

In this work, she designed and presented a structure in the form of a variable frame-panel module that can erect or remove walls according to the changing education according to the times, and was gained recognition for her best ideas and design capabilities.

This architecture competition was held in such a way that participants randomly selected an existing school site across the country and presented reconstructed work suitable for the theme, referring to the program, area, and scale of the existing school.

In the work that Kim received the grand prize, a puzzle game that solves problems with logical thinking was applied to a building, and the modular form using the panelizing method was presented as a piece of a puzzle. After composing the module with the frame, which is the basic skeleton, and the panel that fills the gap, she added or deleted walls through the panel to create a variety of spaces.

Each puzzle composed by her is divided into a puzzle containing a convenient space and an educational space, and then she arranged a small restaurant, library, maker space, media wall exhibition hall, club room, media connection space, AR/VR space, etc., and these are designed to stimulate the creativity of users by enabling spatial changes according to changes in circumstances.

Along with news of Kim's prize winning, the Department of Architecture at Pukyong National University obtained excellent results by Park Kyu-Wan (4th year) receiving the Excellence Award and Kang Jin-Hoon (3rd year) receiving the special selection in this competition. <Pukyong Today>
