Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) was selected as the host university in the Southeast region (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam) for the 2022 training project for regional female talent in science and engineering (R-WeSET 2.0).
R-WeSET is a project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WiSET) to promote the advancement of women in science and technology to new technologies by expanding the capabilities of local women in science and engineering and to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
Pukyong National University, along with the Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Shilla University, and Inje University, was selected as the host university in this project to select a consortium of four universities across the country, including the Southeast region, Daegyeong, Gangwon area, Honam, and Chungcheong. The project cost is KRW 500 million from the annual government budget and 100 million won from the city for three years from this year, and an additional three years can be supported through evaluation.
As Pukyong National University was selected for this project, it is planning to organize a project team led by Professor Sohn Min-Young (Dept. of Chemical Engineering) to develop employment competency tailored to female students and to promote industry-university-linked programs. This is the purpose of contributing to solving the employment problem for local female scientific and engineering talents and providing excellent employment opportunities to companies.
Accordingly, Pukyong National University plans to operate various detailed programs to expand the use of the female workforce, such as △promoting 'Engineering Week for Female Students' to enhance female high school students' interest in the engineering field △providing new technology education to improve female college students' practical competency, and △nurturing female science and technology talents such as field practice programs linked with local companies.
Pukyong National University was selected by the Ministry of Education in 2006 for WIE, a university support project that leads engineering education for female students, and it was also selected for the project of operating the Center for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) in 2012. Following the R-WeSET project in 2017, Pukyong National University gained recognition for being consecutively selected for these projects as a mecca for nurturing female talent. <Pukyong Today>
