Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced on the 4th that it was selected again as the 'Yeongnam sea grant center', the representative center of the Yeongnam region for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to carry out the KSGP (Sea Grant program).

Since being selected for this project in 2014, Pukyong National University has been promoting the development of oyster shell recycling technology, the challenge of high-value cockle firming, and the acquisition of international certifications for regional specialties including Nakdong seaweed and Gijang seaweed, and the university will receive approximately 1.4 billion in support for center operation by 2025.
Accordingly, Pukyong National University's Yeongnam sea grant center (Director Lee In-Cheol, Ocean engineering) aims to advance marine and fisheries by resolving current issues in the Yeongnam region (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam), and provides research projects including the welfare of fishing villages and fishermen, coastal conservation and development, marine culture tourism, and marine and fishery safety, as well as support and specialization for the public.
Director Lee In-Cheol said, "By actively utilizing the outstanding achievements and know-how of the Yeongnam Sea Grant Center so far, we will not only effectively solve local maritime and fisheries issues, but also expand exchanges and cooperation with universities and institutions across the country in the maritime and fishery field."
The sea grant program is a project that utilizes the research capabilities of local universities to solve local ocean affairs and to train research manpower for local maritime and fisheries. Including Yeongnam, Gyeonggi and Incheon, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeonbuk, Jeollanam-do, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju were selected as training universities in eight regions nationwide. <Pukyong Today>
