Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held the ‘opening ceremony for Baekyong Square’ on the afternoon of November 10th at Baekyong Square in Daeyeon Campus.
Pukyong National University held a design competition in August of last year for the maintenance project of Baekyong Square, which is 200m long and covers an area of 11,460㎡, followed by landscaping work and held an opening ceremony on the same day.
Considering the fact that this space, which was previously used as a forest and street for both pedestrians and vehicles, is located at the center of the campus and had a lot of students passing by, Pukyong National University created Baekyong Square as a pedestrian-only street and a space for rest, communication, and local festivals.
Pukyong National University planned Baekyong Square to harmonize with the pine forest and the central walking path to provide a sense of openness to pedestrians, and reorganized the campus into a university symbolic space by designing the university logo on the central floor of the plaza and patterns representing colleges and departments on the floor of the pedestrian path.
Along with this, the lights illuminating the pedestrian path have been installed to change by four season themes, making it a space where students can enjoy rest and outdoor learning as well as events such as the cherry blossom festival.
The name of Baekyong Square was decided through a campus contest. As a space containing the spirit of Pukyong National University, which pursues infinite freedom and faith, like the white whale, the representative symbol of Pukyong National University, it contains the hope that the students of Pukyong National University will sail around the world freely like Moby Dick.
On the day, the participants of the opening ceremony for Baekyong Square, including President Jang Young-Soo, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebrated the opening of this iconic street. <Pukyong Today>
