A student team from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine System Engineering (Advisory Prof. Seok Woo-Chan) at Pukyong National University won the first prize (from the commissioner general of the Korea Coast Guard) at the 3rd Korea Coast Guard Vessel Design contest. The cash prize was 2 million won.
The contest was held by the Korea Coast Guard under the theme of a 'concept design for a 3,000-ton eco-friendly large patrol ship' to discover original ideas from the youth for the improvement of next-generation eco-friendly ships.
The design report submitted by the student team consisting of Jo Yoon-Seong, Kang Min-Soo, Lee Seung-Hoon, Lee Tae-Woo, Choi Min-Ho, and Choi Shi-Hoon from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine System Engineering at Pukyong National University was recognized for its level of completion, suitability, and originality among the participating teams through the first document review and the second presentation review.
The Pukyong National University team was praised in this design report for its original design that actively reflected the design trend and eco-friendly elements for the latest ships based on LNG engine propulsion.
They achieved excellent results by applying an attenuation device to prevent underwater radiated noise (URN) as an eco-friendly facility after calculating ship resistance and optimal engine horsepower using accurate specifications through case studies using data on ships with similar performance.
The Coast Guard Ship Design contest, which celebrated its 3rd year this year, is held annually to communicate with future shipbuilding engineering talents in the field of ship business and marine engineering, and related departments from universities across the country participate and compete. <Pukyong Today>
