PKNU students won the first prize at the Engineering Education Festa with ‘sounding visualizable HUD’

A student team of Seo Yong-Gyo, Kim Ga-Bin, Kim Min-Seo, and Cha Young-Hwa from the Division of Electrical Engineering and a student team led by Yoon Eu-Jin from the Department of Computer Engineering at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) won the top prize in the capstone design fair at the Engineering Education Festa 2022 recently held at Kintex in Ilsan, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Pukyong National University students received a 3 million won cash prize from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy for their work ‘sound visualizable HUD’ in this competition, in which 142 teams of engineering majoring students from 73 universities nationwide participated.

This work is a system that displays the direction and size of the sound heard from outside the car on the HUD located in front of the driver. It recognizes sound with six microphone sensors installed on the front, rear, and side of the car, and displays the direction and intensity of the sound on the circular LED of the HUD.

They designed the bottom of the circular LED to light up when another vehicle honks from behind the car and the right side of the round LED lights up when another vehicle honks on the right side of the driving car. In addition, through eight vibration motors installed in the driver's seat, a vibrating notification is provided in the direction of the sound.

This work was recognized as an excellent design that can secure the safety of drivers with hearing impairments as well as the safety of passengers and their surroundings.

Along with this, the student team of Kim Min-Sol, Moon Soo-Hyeok, Kwak Bo-Seung, Woo Chang-Sik, Kim Jong-Woo from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Yoon So-Yi from the Department of Biomedical Engineering won a special award from the president of the Korea Venture Business Association for their design work, the ‘hydrogen production device using surplus production power of offshore wind power’ in this competition, and students of Pukyong National University were supported to participate in competitions such as the capstone design contest by the Innovation Center for Engineering (Director Son Min-Young) of Pukyong National University and attained such an achievement.

The Engineering Education Festa 2022, which was held face-to-face this year, consisted of various programs such as the capstone design fair, colloquium, and engineering quiz show to create a venue for exchanging creative ideas among young engineers. <Pukyong Today>
