Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that a student team from the department architecture engineering, Lee Seung-Soo, Park Jeong-Cheol, Jeong Ji-Ho, and Kim Hyeok won an award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) in the 'Seismic Structural Design Contest 2023'.
The student team from Pukyong National University were honored with the award for their work entitled 'Designing a Seismic Isolated Structure That Maintains the Level of Collapse Prevention Against an Earthquake with a 2400-year Recurrence Period' (advisor Park Min-Jae) at this competition held recently by the Korea Construction Engineering Development Collaboratory Management Institute (KOCED CMI).
This competition was held under the theme of 'earthquake-resistant design considering the collapse mechanism of structures', and 24 teams were selected from university students nationwide after the first stage of screening, and then the final round was conducted.
The student team presented a design alternative to a structure using a spherical seismic isolated system and cables to prevent collapse during an earthquake with an acceleration of 0.6g and a 2400-year return cycle and received excellent reviews at the competition.
They succeeded in obtaining the seismic performance they aimed for by applying a ball bearing type seismic isolated system to the lower part of the 4th floor of a 4-story scale structure model and connecting the upper part and the foundation with a string.
Through this award-winning work, Pukyong National University students won an invitation to the 'NCREE IDEERS 2023' to be held in Taiwan in September, a participation award of 2 million won, and will compete with university students from around the world in an overseas competition. <Pukyong Today>
