PKNU student won an excellent paper at the international symposium of the Korean society of phycology
- Han Ji-Seung in master's course
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that Han Ji-Seung, studying for a master's degree in oceanography in the division of environmental and marine sciences and technology, won the paper award at the 37th international symposium of the Korean society of phycology (chairman Choi Han-Gil).
Han Ji-Seung received this award with her paper 'study on changes in growth and biochemical composition of chlorella vulgaris according to light-emitting diode wavelength' (advisor Oh Seok-Jin) at this symposium and selected as an outstanding paper.
This paper received good reviews by revealing changes in growth and biochemical composition according to LED wavelength and light intensity for Chlorella vulgaris, a microalgae that can be used in various industries such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries through the production of various high value-added useful substances.
Through this paper, she reviewed the growth characteristics and changes in bioactive substances of wild type and transgenic strains according to LED wavelength and light intensity. As a result, both strains showed high growth rates at red wavelengths, and the promotion of useful biochemical substances such as proteins and lipids were confirmed at blue wavelengths.
Accordingly, she suggested that a mixed wavelength that combines red wavelengths, which are an economical light source that can achieve high cell density, and blue wavelengths that enhance the content of useful substances, can contribute to economic effectiveness and increased productivity.
Founded in 1986, the Korean society of phycology is an academic organization that studies microalgae and marine algae in freshwater and ocean, and recently held the 37th international symposium and general meetings at Sono Calm hotel in Yeosu. <Pukyong Today>
