PKNU fully prepared to become a glocal university with the 'regional innovation convergence major'

- first establishment of 'PKNU-RIS major', jointly developed curriculum with companies and research institutes and began operation

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) opened the 'PKNU-RIS (regional innovation) major' for the first time, operates jointly with companies and research institutes in the high-tech industry, and began making full preparations to be adopted into the glocal university 30 project.

Pukyong National University announced that it will establish three new 'PKNU-RIS majors' including the convergence major of the digital and new technology start-ups, the convergence major of blue food tech, and the convergence major of creatives plans to offer courses from the first semester of 2024.

The newly opening PKNU-RIS major courses, which Pukyong National University presented in last year's business project for glocal university 30, are to establish a leading model for regional development by cooperating with companies and research institutes to jointly operate a convergence major linked to strategic and high-tech industries in Busan.

Accordingly, the newly established convergence majors plan to cultivate talent for employment and start-ups tailored to local industry demands and professionals in the field of technological innovation R&D. Universities will provide curriculum development and teaching and learning support, and companies and research institutes will provide on-site demand assignments or field training opportunities, and provide employment and start-up opportunities for students.

The convergence major of the digital and new technology start-ups trains talent who will settle in the region and use new digital technologies to start a business, and is hosted by the southeast entrepreneurship education innovation leading business team and collaborated with Multi campus co., ltd and Shinsegae I&C. The convergence major of blue food tech is sponsored by the food science and nutrition major, and the marine bio blueprint center of Busan techno park collaborates to train talent who will be active in the blue food tech field and processed seafood food innovation ecosystem in Busan. The convergence major of creatives is hosted by the department of Korean language and literature and collaborated with KNN media plus and Romantique to foster creative convergence talent with theoretical and practical capabilities in cultural contents like scenarios and web novels.

Pukyong National University offers these three majors, as well as a total of 10 new convergence majors including convergence majors for global urban studies, smart international logistics, smart port and logistics, clean energy, smart marine mobility, secondary battery, global blue fisheries.
