Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) visited Nam-gu, Busan near the campus for two days on January 3rd and 4th and carried out service activities including improving the residential environment and providing living supports.
During this period, about 40 students belonging to the PKNU social contribution volunteer group (Lim Joo-Han, representative, division of electronics & communications engineering) in Pukyong National University visited three vulnerable households in the area and provided home repair services, including wallpapering, inspecting water leaks, reinforcing windbreaks, and replacing lights and outlets.
Since 2006, this volunteer group has been carrying out house repair volunteer activities (eco service) in areas near campus every year during vacation and has focused on repairing walls and windows so that neighbors can stay warm this winter, which is colder than usual.
Pukyong National University students as well as facilities staff participated and helped with specialized service such as electrical repairs, and Nam-gu office and Nam-gu volunteer center in Busan supported the recommendation of households to receive volunteer services and the collection of garbage bags and waste.
This year, the volunteer group expanded its community-based volunteer activities and began providing not only home repairing services but also living support services.
Medical staff from the school's health clinic and nursing students joined this volunteer group and provided medical support by visiting local seniors, checking their blood pressure and blood sugar levels, providing health consultations, and providing supplies.
Through the educational training received from Aloysius 1968, a local complex educational and cultural institution, the students of the volunteer group delivered tea coasters that they knitted themselves over the past four months, and school employees also shared warm hearts by delivering handmade scrubbers that they made together.
Pukyong National University PKNU Social Contribution Volunteer Group provides various services for the community and neighbors, such as volunteer work to sort recyclables, volunteer work in rural areas, briquette delivery service to local areas, and youth mentoring service to develop ESG service capabilities and the ability to implement social contribution values and be with the local community. <Pukyong Today>
