PKNU leads in training AI·SW convergence talents for regional innovation in Southeast Korea
- selected for the project 'software-centered university 2024' with a 18 Billion KRW scale

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has been finally selected for the 'software(sw)-centered university 2024' project by the Ministry of science and ICT (MIST) and the institute for information & communication technology planning & evaluation (IITP).
The project is a large-scale new initiative that supports education system innovation and the training of specialized convergence talents by selecting a total of 17 universities among four-year universities with SW-related departments across the country to foster creative SW convergence talents to lead the fourth industrial revolution.
With the selection for this project, Pukyong National University will receive a total project budget of 18 billion KRW over a maximum of eight years and plans to train over 100 AI·SW majors and convergence talents each year.
Dean Song Ha-Joo of the college of information technology and convergence will oversee the project, with the department of computer and artificial intelligence engineering strengthening its SW major competencies. Departments such as data science, media communication, smart healthcare, and electronics and information communications will also participate in promoting the SW convergence talent training project.
In addition, to expand AI·SW education and disseminate its value in the region, the university plans to strengthen collaboration through joint projects with domestic and international partner universities, public institutions, local governments, and related companies.
With the vision of training AI·SW convergence talents as the digital hub for regional innovation in Southeast Korea, Pukyong National University plans to restructure its related major educational curricula to develop '4Able talents' based on four strategic approaches: specialization in new SW technologies, end-to-end education for field adaptability, regional industry convergence courses, and a systematic and continuous verification system. Additionally, the university will work on expanding the base of AI·SW education and improving educational infrastructure.
Dean Song Ha-Joo of the college of information technology and convergence said, "We expect this project to become an opportunity for Pukyong National University to be at the center of training AI·SW talents who will lead the digital transformation of regional industries." <Pukyong Today>
