Pukyong National University Holds Inauguration Ceremony for 8th President Dr. Bae Sang-hoon

-December 18th at the University Headquarters Conference Hall, Theme … ‘The Future for All, Dreaming Together!’


The inauguration ceremony for Dr. Bae Sang-hoon (裵尙勳)(60 · Department of Geomatics Engineering), the 8th president of Pukyong National University, was held on the afternoon of December 18 at the university’s headquarters conference hall on the second floor.

 

The ceremony was attended by former presidents of Pukyong National University, Seo Young-ok, the president of the alumni association, Kang Yi-gu, the head of the Busan Consular Corps, as well as Kim Gwang-hoe, the vice mayor of future innovation in Busan, Yang Jae-saeng, the chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and university presidents from across the country, along with faculty and students.

 

Dr. Bae Sang-hoon was appointed as the 8th president of Pukyong National University on November 15, and his term will last for four years, until November 14, 2028.

 

President Bae Sang-hoon stated in his inauguration speech, “Based on the foundation of traditional academic disciplines and focusing on cutting-edge studies, I will not stop innovating to lead future academia. To achieve this, I will guide Pukyong National University to become the representative national university of Korea, where young Pukyong students can realize their dreams, under the value of ‘The Future for All, Dreaming Together.’“

 

President Bae emphasized, “I will implement four major visions that a strong university can and must achieve. As a ‘strong university,’ we will lead ‘knowledge innovation,’ collaborate with the world for ‘global cooperation,’ and realize a ‘harmonious future.’”

 

President Bae Sang-hoon graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Busan National University and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in Transportation Engineering from Virginia Tech. Since 2002, he has served as a professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Pukyong National University and as the dean of the College of Environmental and Marine Sciences. He has also worked as a research fellow at the Korea Transport Institute. Currently, he serves as the chairman of the Busan Public Transport Citizen Fund and the co-chair of the Busan Public Transport Forum. <Pukyong Today>
