Pukyong National University’s Rowing Team Member Choi Han-seok Joins Chungju City Hall Rowing Team

-First Achievement of Student Athletes Advancing to Professional Teams

Pukyong National University’s Physical Education Promotion Center (Director Shin Jong-dae) announced that rowing team member Choi Han-seok (Coach Lee Jun-cheol) has been selected to join the professional team, Chungju City Hall Rowing Team.

Choi Han-seok, a senior majoring in Marine Sports at Pukyong National University, has confirmed his entry into the Chungju City Hall Rowing Team, ahead of his graduation in February. He will officially start his professional career as a member of the team after graduation.

He joined the rowing team, a student sports club at Pukyong National University, and since his first year, he has stood out by winning various medals at numerous competitions such as the National Beach Rowing Championship, Jangbogo National Rowing Championship, National Rowing Championship, and President’s Cup National Rowing Championship.

Choi Han-seok said, “Although I started rowing relatively late, I never lost my passion and worked hard throughout my university years to achieve good results. I am determined to prepare thoroughly for this year’s competitions and deliver great performances.”

Pukyong National University has produced its first professional team athlete since transitioning the rowing team from a competitive sports department to a student sports club in 2017, with Choi Han-seok’s entry into the Chungju City Hall rowing team.

Rowing team coach Lee Jun-cheol stated, “As the paradigm of school sports shifts from elite sports to recreational sports, Choi Han-seok’s entry into a professional team is a meaningful case. It will inspire younger students and the school’s athletic department, and I expect more promising athletes to emerge in the future.” <Pukyong Today>
