Pukyong National University Launches ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’

- Launch Ceremony on the 5th … Over 100 Participants from Local Universities, Government, Businesses, and Organizations

Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) launched the ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ on February 5th to successfully implement the Busan-style RISE framework.

The ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ is a special strategic consortium established by Pukyong National University to promote the Busan RISE project. It includes major businesses and organizations in Busan participating in the RISE framework, particularly those engaged in joint industry-academic-government research projects and businesses located within the university.

The launch ceremony, held at 2 p.m. at the Pukyong Convention Hall, was attended by over 100 participants, including Pukyong National University President Bae Sang-hoon, university officials, professors preparing for RISE specialization fields, local government representatives, and representatives from regional businesses and organizations.

The special lecture on government’s local, industry, and academic collaboration policies and future directions kicked off the event, followed by discussions among participants on collaboration strategies and the introduction of the RISE project led by Pukyong National University. Pukyong National University plans to continue expanding the ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ as a key collaboration strategy for the Busan RISE project.

The Regional Innovation System and Education (RISE) is a university support paradigm connecting local governments, universities, enterprises, and research institutions. The city of Busan is implementing the project with a budget of 130 billion won in its first year, and universities in the region will participate by selecting one of the three types: research-centered, education-centered, or vocational and lifelong education-centered.

As a research-centered university, Pukyong National University is preparing a project plan focusing on three major specialized fields and nine sub-fields. The ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ will carry out various programs to foster future industry-leading research talents and strengthen research and development.

Pukyong National University’s capabilities in local, industry, and academic collaboration are well-known nationwide. The Yongdang Campus, known as Dragon Valley, hosts over 170 companies with approximately 740 employees. Through the only Campus Innovation Park project in Busan, more than 150 companies are expected to be added by 2030. The university also runs events like the Dragon Valley Festival to strengthen its network of tenant companies and the Unicorn Forum to support technology-related challenges.

President Bae Sang-hoon of Pukyong National University said, “As the largest local, industry, and academic collaboration complex in the southeastern region, our university already has a solid infrastructure for the RISE system.” He added, “Through the PKNU RISE Alliance, we aim to achieve the Busan-type RISE goals of talent development, employment and entrepreneurship, and regional settlement.” <Pukyong Today>
