Pukyong National University Launches Full-Scale ‘Major Exploration’ for Students in the College of Liberal Studies
? Major Fair held on May 13?14; Students in the College of Liberal Studies begin selecting their majors
? Each department attracts students through lab tours and special lectures by distinguished alumni
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) hosted the “Major Exploration Week ? Major Fair” on May 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pukyong Convention Hall, supporting students from the College of Liberal Studies and other departments in exploring and selecting their majors.
The university designated a full week as Major Exploration Week to help students learn about various academic disciplines and make informed career decisions.
A total of 53 departments and majors participated in the fair, setting up booths where senior students and professors introduced their fields and provided one-on-one academic and career counseling.
The main participants of this event were first-year students, particularly those enrolled in the newly established College of Liberal Studies, which was launched this year as part of a Ministry of Education initiative. As these students begin their university journey without a declared major, the fair was designed to help them explore academic fields and choose the right path before officially selecting their major.
Pukyong National University launched the College of Liberal Studies this year and admitted 896 students, accounting for about 30% of the total incoming class. After completing two semesters, these students will be able to apply for and be assigned to their desired majors, with the exception of certain teacher education programs.
At the fair, each department at Pukyong National University not only provided guidance and counseling but also organized a range of engaging programs to attract students, including laboratory tours and special lectures by distinguished alumni.
In addition, the university held a “College Life Planning Fair” at the same venue in conjunction with the major exploration fair. This event offered comprehensive information on all aspects of campus life, including student clubs, scholarships, student welfare, international exchange, academic advising, extracurricular activities, career planning, employment, military service, double majors, and various university-funded programs. <Pukyong Today>
