PKNU Students Become a ‘Bridge of Hope’ for Youth in Need of Protection

-‘PKNU Guardians’ Dream & Talent Development Program Held for Three Days Starting June 22

Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) held the “PKNU Guardians Dream & Talent Development Program for Youth Hope Ladder” on July 22 at Alloysiogi Base 1968 in Amnam-dong, Busan.

This hands-on program was designed to help local protected and vulnerable youth discover and develop their dreams and talents, with PKNU student volunteers serving as their mentors.

A total of 95 youth, including those under the care of the youth recovery center affiliated with the organization “Mansa Sonyeon” and from local childcare facilities, participated in the program. They were supported by 87 PKNU student volunteers who joined as mentors.

From July 22 to 24, Pukyong National University students teamed up with local youth to participate in a three-day experiential program, offering a total of 12 activities including cooking (pizza making), woodworking (everyday woodcraft), crafts (keyring making), sports (soccer), and engineering (autonomous vehicles). Throughout the program, PKNU students accompanied the youth from start to finish, building bonds and helping them explore their talents and improve their adaptability to society.

Choi Soo-yeon, a third-year student in the Department of Law and a member of the PKNU Guardians Student Volunteer Group, shared, “It was more than just a hands-on activity ― it was an experience of passionate communication with the youth. I felt truly rewarded to be part of their growth, even in a small way.”

Since 2021, Pukyong National University has been operating the PKNU Guardians program in collaboration with local organizations such as Mansa Sonyeon and Alloysiogi Base 1968, continuously supporting hands-on experiences and mentoring for protected and vulnerable youth in the region. <Pukyong Today>
