PKNU and UNIST Join Hands to Foster AI Talent in the Marine and Fisheries Sectors of Busan and Ulsan
-MOU Signed on the 18th; Joint Research Center and Educational Programs to Be Operated

Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Park Jong-rae) signed a mutual cooperation agreement on August 18 at the Dongwon Institute of Convergence Technology on the PKNU campus.
Through this agreement, the two universities have pledged to strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint research in the marine and fisheries sectors, talent development, and the establishment of a collaborative framework for technological exchange. By combining their respective strengths in marine, fisheries, and AI-related fields, they aim to create strong synergy.
With the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries set to relocate to Busan, this partnership between two institutions recognized for their research excellence in Busan and Ulsan is expected to accelerate the development of expert talent and research infrastructure in the marine and fisheries sectors.
The two universities have agreed to collaborate on the establishment and operation of a joint research center, the implementation of professional training programs, the planning and acquisition of national and global R&D projects, and the co-hosting of a Marine and Fisheries AI Forum. Through this partnership, they will conduct joint research and educational programs that integrate marine and fisheries sciences with artificial intelligence, and actively pursue joint participation in related R&D initiatives.
Pukyong National University plans to establish a “Marine and Fisheries Science Park” on its Yongdang Campus, which was previously selected for the Campus Innovation Park Project. This space will serve as the foundation for operating research centers and graduate programs dedicated to the marine and fisheries sectors.
President Bae Sang-hoon stated, “We will expand inter-university cooperation for cultivating high-level talent across the broader southeastern region and faithfully fulfill our role as a central hub for the development of a marine industry cluster in the Yeongnam area.” <Pukyong Today>
