Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) went through with remodeling the library into a user-centered open learning space in line with the trend that students prefer study cafe-type learning spaces.

During last winter vacation, the Pukyong National University library (director Kim Cheol-Soo) integrated and remodeled three individual learning spaces on the first floor of the academic information center into one open space and opened it to students in time for the first semester.

This space, named ‘open lounge’, has been transformed into a pleasant and open cafe-style learning space by placing enough distance between desks and providing seats near the window equipped with electrical outlets for portable laptops, attracting students’ attention since classes began.

Along with this, Pukyong National University actively reflected on the recent changes in the learning environment and created a ‘media studio’ and a ‘VR experience zone’ on the 3rd floor.

Media studios in three spaces are equipped with system for shooting, editing, chroma keying, and lighting to provide an environment where students can create and utilize video content themselves. In addition, the VR experience zone will be available in earnest from next month with gear where students can experience various virtual reality content such as reading experiences, watching videos, and playing games through wearing VR devices.

The Pukyong National University library has improved conveniences for students by allowing them to easily reserve and use new spaces such as media studios and VR experience zones, as well as existing 24-hour reading rooms and study rooms through a mobile reservation system.

Kim Cheol-Soo, director of the library at Pukyong National University, said, “As learning tools and methods of use have recently been digitized, this space has been designed to fully reflect the tendency of students to concentrate well in a cozy atmosphere. We plan to continue to innovate this space so that the library can become the most familiar place for students.” <Pukyong Today>
