The Rapid Growth of PKNU’s Competitiveness
It was reported that PKNU was evaluated to reach a high level of standard in the field of the Index of Educational Achievement (IEA), which indicates the competitiveness of Universities.
The outcome of the selection process for the “2010 strengthening Educational Capacity of University Project by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) ranked PKNU 3rd in the IEA among 29 national and private provincial universities with more than 10,000 students nationwide.
Ulsan University and Kyungpook National University were placed 1st and 2nd respectively. Busan National University, Gyeongsang National University and Inje University followed PKNU to complete the top 6.
The IEA is calculated using two criteria: the Index of Achievement made up of a 25 percent employment rate, 20 percent student supplement rate, and 5 percent globalization rate; and the Index of Educational Condition consisting of 10 percent procuring rate of tenure-track professors, 5 percent administration and curriculum operation rate, 15 percent allocation rate of scholarship, 15 percent educational expenses per student, and 5 percent tuition fee raise, which shows the competitiveness of Universities.
PKNU scored high especially on the sector of employment rate, allocation rate of scholarships, and student supplement rate.
As a result, PKNU will receive subsidies amounting to 5572 million won. This was calculated reflecting the result of IEA and the number of enrolled students by the MEST, which supports the project of strengthening the Educational Capacity of Universities. The financial support has increased by 218 million won compared with last year.
PKNU plans to invest this funding in building up its educational infrastructure in order to enhance the educational capacity of its university.
