"Cultivate new area, LED"

PKNU will actively start research for development of Marine LED.
PKNU reached a series of agreements on technological cooperation and co-research with the Korea Institute of Lighting Technology (KILT. the director Mr. Yang SeungYong) and the Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI, the director, Mr. Yu EunYoung) on the 25th of March in 2010.

PKNU and its partners have planned to implement an education-training project for nurturing high-quality human resources in this field and a technological education supporting system for companies along with research in relevant areas of LED for developing new technologies.

PKNU appointed Mr. Yu YoungMoon as a chair professor last month. He is the president of Society of LED and Solid State Lighting (SLSSL) and an authority on LED  who has also served as a researcher at the KOPTI.

PKNU plans to focus its research efforts on the development of new technology in LED in response to industrial demands in Busan such as fish-luring lights, buoy lights, and beacon lights in the sea.

PKNU plans to establish a LED-Marine IT fusion Research Institute in the Yongdang campus. Master and doctoral programs are also expected to be newly opened in the graduate school of industry next year and undergraduate programs  in LED are scheduled in the long term plan.

LED which is so called ’dream-lighting’ has come to the spot light due to its high-energy efficiency and long life span as well as its carbon dioxide reduction effect. The government plans to spend 40 billion won by 2012 on the industry and private corporations will step forward to nurture the business pouring 3 trillion won on facility investment in relevant industries.
