| A think tank of ‘seafood processing’ is established - The opening ceremony was held on February 28th - It is located in Yongdang Campus in PKNU ![]() △ A think tank which helps seafood processing was founded by Center of Industry–University Cooperation in Busan, Korea for the first time. ⓒ Lee Sung Jae (the member of the office of public relation) The president of PKNU, Park Maeng Eon, held the opening of ‘Seafood Processing Industry-University Cooperation Research and Support Center’, which director is Kim Dae Sik, in Yongdang Campus on February 28th at 2 P.M., and PKNU started to operate the center in earnest. This Research and Support Center was established by the investment of Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Busan, and PKNU. The investment is totally 3.3billion, and this Center has an area of 1,952.63㎡. As a two – story building, there are Analysis Support Office, Education Support Office, Product Development Office, and Pilot Office on the first floor, and Fishery Processing Laboratory, Fishery Processing Support Office, Freezer, and Refrigerator are on the second floor. This Research and Support Center will play a major role to promote from seafood processing industry, which has difficulty in controlling the quality and developing new products because of the small business, to value – added next generation growth industry. As a result, PKNU will try to develop new products by focusing on study of fisheries oceanography which is PKNU’s specialization field, and on transference of technology. In addition, PKNU is going to implement the processed marine products inspection and to examine the safety of them. Furthermore, PKNU will direct and educate HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system. Also, PKNU is going to strive to train and reeducate many talented professionals in the field of fishery processing. The chief of the center, Kim Dae Sik, said the following. “It is urgent to increase the competitiveness and to implement structure heightening policy in the field of domestic seafood processing because of the complete opening of the imported marine products through FTA and WTO. Also, I want to make value – added next generation growth industry by developing new technology in the field of seafood processing, transferring the technology, assisting the administration and legislation.” <Pukyong Today> |
