The welcoming ceremony for PKNU eco-volunteer workers was held in the conference room on the 7th floor of the administration building in Daeyeon campus in PKNU with President Park Maeng Eon on July 13th at 10:30am. After the ceremony, they began doing voluntary service for 4 days.

A representative of this volunteer organization, Park Dong Min who is in his 4th year of the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, visited 5 needy neighbors’ houses, including a hearing-impaired person’s house which was located in Yongho 4-dong, Nam-gu. He also visited social welfare organizations, including the child welfare institution, with 52 students. They helped to repair the facilities until July 16th.

This volunteer organization was divided into 5 small groups, and each small group put up new wallpaper, laid new linoleum, replaced the old windows and the fluorescent tubes, put up mosquito nets, painted the inside and outside of old houses, and did a big cleanup with the technical experts.

Moreover, these groups repaired the old rides and broken computers, and weeded the gardens in the social welfare facilities. In addition, the students helped children to exercise.

Busan Nam-gu District Office assisted PKNU eco-volunteer works by sending social workers, moving-vehicles, cleaning equipment, and garbage bags.

A representative of this volunteer organization, Park Dong Min, stated, “I realized that there are many needy neighbors around us. From now on, I will do volunteer work devotedly to give love and the fruit of hope to the local community.”

Meanwhile, PKNU eco- volunteer workers, which are comprised of PKNU students and faculty members, have done volunteer work such as repairing old houses which is a kind of ‘Habitat of Humanity’ to show neighborly love, and to have close links with the local community every summer vacation since 2006. <Pukyong Today>
