31 Korean and American university students gathered in Busan. The 4th Korean-American student conference was held in the banquet room on the third floor of V stars Hotel in Daeyeon Campus in PKNU on July 8th at 5pm. The objective of this conference was to cultivate international friendship between Korea and America. In addition, this conference aimed to enable students to develop strong leadership skills. Thus, 25 university students from PKNU, Korea University, Daejeon University, Seoul National University, University of Seoul, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, Chonnam National University, Jeju National University, Hanyang University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies participated in this conference. In addition, 23 American university students from Harvard University, the University of Wisconsin System, the University of Michigan, The George Washington University and the University of California took part in this conference. Korean and American students will become a two-person team, and they will share a dormitory room for 5 days. They can develop a close relationship by discussing the main idea of the conference which is ‘Beyond Boundaries’, by attending a special lecture series on Korean culture, and by visiting corporations during this period. One of the students who participated in this program, Sochantra Mel, who is 24, and a North Central College student, stated, “The passion and the driving force that Korean students showed us while we were preparing this program together was really incredible. I hope that it will be an opportunity to understand a different culture and to exchange academic information.” Meanwhile, the Korean representative, Jang Jin Gu, who is also 24, and a Yonsei University student stated, “During this period, I am going to strive to provide a forum for continuous exchange between Korean students and American students.” As a kind of international academic and cultural exchange program, the ISC (International Student Conference) was initiated in 2008 for the first time by a non-profit educational institution which is located in Washington, D.C. in America. After that, this program has been held in Korea and in America alternately. <Pukyong Today> |
