Pukyong National University and Kosin University Carry Forward Fusion Research of Medical Engineering Field.
- Research such as ’research for defeating global environmental disease’ based on southeastern

Biomedical engineering department of Pukyong National University started fusion medical engineering research together with college of medicine of Kosin University.

The Engineering college (Dean Yong Sik Ahn) where the biomedical engineering department of PKNU is placed in and college of medicine of Kosin University(Dean Ki Chan Kim) had a start ceremony of the research team for fusion medical engineering experiments innovation(Heads Yeh-Chan Ahn from PKNU biomedical engineering department and Eun Ki Park from Kosin University) in 13th September on Kosin University Gospel Hospital placed in Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan.

The ceremony was a following event as the two universities had an agreement with Gyeongsang National University for the research of high-tech diagnosis and therapy in July last year.

Professors from biomedical engineering department of PKNU and college of medicine of Kokin university have attended the research team, and they will conduct joint research such as ’research for defeating global environmental disease’, ’high-tech medical equipment business’, and ’training experts in field of medicine and medical engineering’ what are based on southeastern area of Korea.

For the team, the biomedical engineering department of PKNU set up high-tech medical equipment based on laser and ultrasonic waves in the gospel hospital, so they can conduct fusion research about clinical test with Kosin’s research team in the fields of pulmonology, otolaryngology, allergy and clinical Immunology, rehabilitation medicine, ophthalmology, and internal medicine of heart.

The two universities have improved their research team’s capability so far by conducting three researches focusing on diseases of eye, lung, respiratory tract, and muscle supported by government.

Before this ceremony, the biomedical engineering department of PKNU selected as a team training manpower for Maine-Integrated Biomedical Technology of BK21 PLUS in last August. The team will focus on developing and commercializing marine biomedical system with support three billion won for 7 years from government by integrating knowledge of marine bio technology, biomedical science, and medical machine and system as the first in Korea.

The head of research team, Yeh-Chan Ahn, said the PKNU’s department, established in 2010 as the first undergraduate course with its subject in Korea, will focus on activating of local medical schools joint research and training global medical experts who will lead medical industry through the fusion research among the subjects like biorheology, clinical engineering, and developing medical equipment. <Pukyong Today>
