The Busan Daily News reported on the 27th, "’The demonstration of the World Fisheries University passed and now it is need to be established formally."

This article analyzed the performance and prospects of pilot projects in Pukyong National University, "As the pilot project of the World Fisheries University (WFU) has been completed with the aim of establishing Korea’s first UN Headquarters, the interest of the future university has been attracting attention."

Earlier this, Pukyong National University’s World Fisheries Graduate School awarded a diploma to 25 students from 17 countries in the world who have completed the master’s course. On the same day, 19 participants in the leadership training course received a diploma.

The Master’s program is aimed at strengthening the capacity of developing countries by raising fishery and aquaculture specialists. Pukyong National University, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), and Busan Metropolitan City will join a pilot project jointly operated since September, 2017 prior to establishment of the World Fisheries University (WFU) under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

In the article, "The visiting professors and students presented a total of 7 theses in SCI (Scientific and Technical Papers Citation Index) during the pilot project, some of which were selected as outstanding papers at international conferences." and emphasized "It was also reported that the results of the World Fisheries University pilot project conducted by the International Baccalaureate Center last year were excellent."

In addition, the article added, "At the 160th FAO Board of Directors meeting last year, member countries participating in the demonstration project are calling for the establishment of the World Fisheries University, and a favorable public opinion has been formed.

"Busan and other organizations plan to start the joint pilot project of the Korea-FAO World Fisheries University with the aim of opening in September this year." and "FAO will participate directly in the overall operation, including recruitment of professors, students, curriculum and program selection."

The article expected "When the World Fisheries University is officially established in Busan, it is hoped that it will become a center for leading talent that will lead the discussion of fisheries in the international community just as the world maritime college graduates of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) take control of the shipping industry around the world in government and shipping." <Pukyong Today>
