'Young men who started repairing service of neighbor's house ahead of heat wave' attracts attention From the morning of July 16, 44 students from Pukyong National University's social volunteer service corps (representative Kim Jae-won, 3rd grade in Business Administration) started to improve residential environment of nearby university in Namgu, Busan by finding six residential environment-impaired households including the disabled and the elderly living alone in the vicinity of the university. This year, Pukyong National University started its service activities for the first time in 2006, and it has been in its 14th year. Up to now, 580 students and faculty have participated in the volunteer activity, and 80 houses have been repaired. The volunteers will clean the interior and exterior of every houses by visiting for the six houses recommended by the Namgu Office in Busan from 9am to 6pm for 3 days from today to 18th, starting from cleaning the interior and exterior of the house, they will carry out house repair activities such as flooring, change of floor, ceiling repair, painting, roof waterproofing, exterior wall plastering. Five Mongolian students who came to Pukyong National University participated in the service this year. Pukyong National University staffs are doing their best to repair technical fields such as civil engineering, electricity, and facilities that are difficult for students to do themselves. Namgu office in Busan supports volunteer team uniforms, cleaning tools and garbage bags, and handles collection of waste. In addition, Pukyong National University plans to support households with additional supplies such as lamps and summer blankets in addition to home repair support. Kim Jae-won, a student at the volunteer team, said, "Whether big or small, I will do my best to repair this house so that I can make a little contribution to the cool summer of my neighbors with the idea that it is a meaningful service to do what is necessary for someone.” <Pukyong Today> |
