University students are attracting attention by helping their local traditional markets and local businesses by utilizing their majors in management and design.

More than 30 students from the 'PKNU Youth (University Students) Keepers' (Head chief Oh Yu-kyung, Division of Business Administration) in Pukyong National University visited the Namgwang Market (Daeyeon, Busan) near the campus on the 26th and carried out facility maintenance activities.

PKNU Youth Keepers Pukyong National University's mission is to support the challenges of traditional markets, small business owners, and self-employed workers by utilizing their majors. Students in business administration provide consulting on production and marketing, and students in design major support the design of signboards and menu boards.

Beginning in June with a starting ceremony, they started their first field work following the team's idea meeting and project planning. The work of the day was to repair the old facilities of the market store and change the old image.

Pukyong University students exchanged signboards and kiosks designed by themselves, and carried out activities such as painting shops and surrounding walls and maintaining the environment for stores in the market on that day.

Employees of the business administration who supports the activity of PKNU Youth Keepers also helped on the day. The facilities staff worked to support specialty jobs such as electricity.

Pukyong National University students are planning to expand the facilities and environmental maintenance activities of Namgwang Market by September. In addition, the company plans to promote the use of SNS as well as induce participation in government policies such as zero-pay and local currency for merchants and customers.

Ji Shin-ho (52 yr old), chairman of the merchant market at Namgwang Market, said, “Thanks to the students, I think the market atmosphere will be brighter. The students, as well as the market merchants, will work together to increase the number of customers who come to the market and expect it to develop." <Pukyong Today>
