The old lady, Huh Jeong-soon (74 years old) lives in Mangmi-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan, she visited Pukyong National University on January 14, where she delivered 8 million won for scholarships to students with difficult family circumstances.

The money donated by Ms.Huh was her saved allowance and living expenses given from her children (one son and two daughters) for holidays and birthdays from three years ago.

"One day I woke up in the early morning and watching TV, an old man in his 70s donated his the salary by working as safety officer", I decided 'to make a donation to good things', so I began to save money," she said.

Ms.Huh told that she was married to a man who was the eldest son in a family of seven and she lived hard for her life. “I did not only the gardener, but also the street cleaner, the daily helper, and worked at the construction site. I endured hardships, thinking that 'my children should not live hard like me', " she said.

These days, economic conditions have improved, but her habits of lifelong savings still the same. She also buys used clothes and sneakers, and cheap ones around 10,000 won. she also says she doesn't buy anything unless it is necessary.

"I decided to donate my collected money to the Pukyong National University where my son graduated," she said, “Thanks for the school that made my son study well and had a good job.” His son, Lee Jeong-ho, (45 years old), has graduated from the department of Civil Engineering of Pukyong National; University and he is working at a professional construction company currently.

However, as soon as her children all grown up and she can afford her life, she felt ill. Because of her lifelong work, her knee cartilage was worn out and she had recently had an artificial joint surgery, and her both shoulder joints were worn out, she had to get surgery. Ten fingers have degenerative arthritis and can't hold a fist and the finger joint hurts as if to pierce with a thorn.

Ms.Huh said, “I feel sick, but I feel better since I decided to donate.” and added, “Now I think my life is worth.”

“There are many people in the world who are harder and harder than me. Compared to such a person, I am in better circumstance. "It's a small amount, but I'm saving hard and planning to donate again," she said. <Pukyong Today>
