Pukyong National University (President Kim Young-seup) and Daesun shipbuilding & Engineering Co.,Ltd (CEO Lee Soo-geun) held the launching ceremony of the ship Baek-kyung, a training ship of Pukyong National University, at the Yeongdo Shipbuilding yard of Daesun shipbuilding farm in Busan, Yeongdo-gu.

The launching ceremony is the first event of floating ships on the water at a shipyard on land.

The ship Baek-kyung, which has been under construction since September of last year with the government's budget of KRW 53.2 billion, has 97 meters in length, 15.4 meters in width, and a total ton of 3,990 tons. 160 people, including crew members and trainees, can board the ship and the maximum speed is 16 knots. It is the largest among the school training ships among the Fisheries University in Korea.

As a result, Pukyong University will be pioneering the ocean with the two leading-edge 'ocean campuses', including the ship 'Baek-kyung' and the marine researh ship 'Nara' (1,494 tons) completed in 2015.

Baek-kyung is a multi-purpose marine and fishery training ship with advanced and high-tech boarding practice environment and comfortable living space on board.

Equipped with the latest cloud computer system and LAN equipment in line with the Internet of Things (IoT) era, the company is equipped with a ship management system that enables smooth onboard networking and real-time monitoring of navigational and institutional information, and a simulation training system using the same.

In order to prevent air pollution, it is an eco-friendly vessel equipped with emission reduction device equivalent to TIER3 grade, which is the highest level among training ships. It is also equipped with a ship automatic position control system (DPS), which enables hands-on activities for a long time.

The ship Baek-kyung will be completed in December following the launching ceremony and internal design work, and it will be delivered to Pukyong National University.

The university president Kim Young-seup said, "Baek-kyung is a given name of a training ship of the past Pukyong National University, the Busan Fisheries University, which pioneered Korea's ocean fishing in the 1960s. We will contribute to the development of marine fisheries by focusing on research and human resource development with the challenge spirit and passion at the time when we pioneered the sea."

On the other hand, the launching ceremony was conducted with only 20 representatives from the Pukyong National University and Daesun shipbuilding & Engineering, tape cutting and group shooting to prevent the infection of Corona19. <Pukyong Today>
