Pukyong National University introduced interactive real-time video lectures to innovate non-face-to-face online classes that are being conducted in the Corona 19 crisis.

On March 18, Pukyong National University announced that it has introduced a Zoom cloud meetings system, a real-time video lecture program, as part of the 'Educational Environment Enhancement Project through Realization of Smart Campus' among the Ministry of Education's University Innovation Support Project.

It is an effort to prevent students' learning outcomes from being degraded due to prolonged untact (non-face to non-face) online classes. Pukyong National University has decided to entirely abolish the class for submitting assignments allowed in the Ministry of Education's online class guidelines from the March 30 as a measure to prevent from providing insufficient lectures.

The real-time video lecture introduced by Pukyong National University is the same as Minerva School's online pedagogical methods, which is famous for an innovative university without campus. It is an interactive video lecture platform that allows professors and students to access in real time at a specific time to share the screen being written by students and to have discussions live.

Students can improve class performance since the professors and students can interact with each other by asking and answering questions by live chatting while looking at each other during the lecture.

1,000 professors can use the program at the same time, and 300 students can attend one lecture. Both desktop computers and mobile devices are available to access.

Kang Myeong-soo, head of the Office of Academic Affairs at Pukyong National University, said, “After the class, the course can be downloaded as a video so that professors can monitor the class as well as students can review the class. Therefore, it is expected that the learning effect can be improved.”

In the meantime, Pukyong National University will proceed video trainings on how to use 'Zoom' online from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm on March 20, and the March Academic Conference hosted by the President will also be held with a untact video conference via 'Zoom'. <Pukyong Today>
