'UN Supporters', Student Peace Corps volunteers of PKNU, held a 'Starting ceremony' On this day, 21 volunteers from the 12th unit received a letter of appointment and finally went into their volunteer activities. Pukyong UN Supporters is a student peace volunteer corps working to repay the sacrifice of Korean War veterans. It has been the 12th year this year since the first launch in 2009. Their main task is to pay respect and mourn for the souls of more than 2,300 UN fallen heroes from 11 countries who have fallen asleep in the UN Memorial Park (Daeyeon-dong, Busan), the world's only UN cemetery which is located nearby Pukyong National University. They guide overseas veterans and families who visit the country and holds a memorial event including visiting the UN Memorial Park to lay wreaths and worship. They also support events such memorial ceremony for UN fallen heroes held at the UN Memorial Park, celebrations for UN World Peace Day, and the event 'Turn to world, Busan'. In the winter vacation, it is their duty to visit veterans who have survived abroad, hold events for repaying sacrifice of war veterans and deliver thank-you letters and gifts. So far, they have met more than 150 people, including veterans and surviving families living in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia, and expressed their gratitude. On this day, the 12th volunteer unit who attended the starting ceremony visited the UN Memorial Park near Pukyong National University for their first activities and had time to pay respects for the heroes. Meanwhile, 16 students of 11th volunteer unit who worked as members of the Pukyong UN Supporters last year received the certificate. <Pukyong Today> |
