Professor Jang Young-soo has been appointed as the 7th president of PKNU.

Professor Jang Young-soo (Age 55, Dept. of Marine Business & Economics) was appointed as the 7th president of the Pukyong National University.

The Ministry of Education announced on the 19, October that it had appointed Professor Jang Young-soo as the 7th President of Pukyong National University through the procedure for the appointment of the President of the National University. It will be four-year tenure as university president from the official announcement date to 18, October 2024.

In the morning of the day, after visiting Chungnyeolsa Shrine with the Vice-President of Academic Affairs and other faculty members, President Jang, who has just started his official service, said, "I will do my best to open a new vision of education, research, and social service that leads the New Normal era, and the role and try to make the national university carry out its role and mission."

President Jang, whose Alma mater is Pukyong National University, announced his determination to make his Alma mater, Pukyong National University, great strides with the banner of ’innovative established academy, a strong leap forward’.

President Jang said, "Pukyong National University, which started out as the first university in Busan, has grown into a creative model for the development of today’s National University with a great challenge and passion," he added, "To that condensed energy, I will add resolute determination and innovative efforts of a the ’second established academy’ to bring the university to a new height.

To achieve this, he is planning to carry out four innovation tasks such as ▷creative convergence education to cultivate future convergence talents, ▷Korea’s best research support and welfare, ▷minimizing administrative regulations to strengthen university autonomy, and ▷building a profitable campus to strengthen financial independence.

President Jang graduated from the Department of Marine Business & Economics at Pukyong National University in 1988 and received a Ph.D. in Fisheries at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in Japan (1994). Since 1995, he had served as a professor at the Department of Marine Business & Economics at Pukyong National University, served as Dean of the College of Fisheries Science and Head chief at Division of External Business. He is a member of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning, a member of the Subcommittee of Presidential Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Policy (PCAFRP), and a policy advisory member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF).

President Jang was elected first in the final voting for the 7th presidential appointment of Pukyong National University held on July 15th.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on at 11 am, coming Tuesday, 17th of November at the University Theater of Pukyong National University. <Pukyong Today>
