PKNU students won the grand prize at the Korean Architecture Awards The team of students Kim Dae-hyeon, Jang Young-Joon, Joo Hyeon-joon of 4th graders in the Department of Architecture at Pukyong National University won the grand prize in the planned architecture category (Chairman of the Korea Institute of Architects) at this competition held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Korea Institute of Architects. The prize money is 2 million won. They submitted their architectural design work, 'Because it is Shingok-bo (river bank), it leapt out at me.' and they were recognized for their outstanding ideas and their proven design competency This work is a design work that embodies the plan to create a 'Community Road' using the difference in depth by partially dismantling the Shingok-bo, an underwater bank located near the Gimpo Bridge on the Han River. Pukyong National University students proposed a plan to build a large-scale 'Community Road', a 1.8 km long building that could connect Gangnam and Gangbuk, while partially demolition and dismantling of the bank to solve problems such as water pollution and blocking of the movement of ships due to the Shingok-bo. They applied the idea of cultural exchange on the Han River by opening a waterway from the upper stream to the mouth of the Han River by lifting only part of the Shingok-bo. They designed the community programs can be conducted by time by utilizing the depth difference between low and high tides, which are held twice a day. When the bank is exposed to the surface during low tide, it can be used as a space for walking, fishing, and performances, and when the bank is submerged during high tide, it can be used as water sports and aquatic cultural space. Their ideas were evaluated for suggesting the possibility of cultural exchange as well as the development of the area around the Han River by applying the concept of a pedestrian-oriented 'Community road' rather than an existing vehicle-oriented bridge. Winners of this competition will be exhibited online, and the award ceremony will be held at the Architecture & Social Center, Seocho in Seoul on 19th, November. <Pukyong Today> |
