Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) is attracting public attention by providing a program for middle school students to take online lectures, research, and test natural sciences at home.

Pukyong National University announced on the 11th of this month that it will hold the 'PKNU Natural Science Research Class of 2020' for about 400 middle school students in Busan, Ulsan and, Gyeongnam from the 23rd, November to the 4th of next month.

Pukyong National University has been running the program by inviting local junior high school students to the campus during vacations under the supervision of the College of Natural Sciences every year, however, it has decided to open it in a non-face-to-face online program for this year due to COVID-19.

With the theme of 'A life of wise quarantine', △ how to make hand sanitizers (Dept. of Chemistry), △ how to check the effect of hand sanitizer using a hand plate (Dept. of Microbiology), △ the principle of operation of an infrared thermometer (Dept. of Physics), △ how to prevent and handle with COVID-19 (Dept. of Nursing), △ and home training (Dept. of Marine sports), these five courses are prepared this year.

Undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers from departments of the College of Natural Sciences at Pukyong National University volunteered to 'BJ' to produce videos that demonstrated and explained experiments and conducted tests for each subject.

These lectures show middle school students how to make hand sanitizers with simple ingredients so that they can be interested in natural sciences, the principle of a thermometer that measures body temperature without contact, and interesting exercise methods to increase physical fitness at home.

If the College of Natural Sciences at Pukyong National University uploads these videos on YouTube, middle school students watch the videos and experiment and practice themselves at home. For this, the College of Natural Sciences of Pukyong National University plans to create individual experimental kits and send them to students.

Kim Gun-do, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Pukyong National University, said, "We hope that this program, which combines online lectures and laboratory practice experiences, will be a little help to students who are struggling with home-based classes due to COVID-19 and also to the local community." <Pukyong Today>
